The Psalms are a nice break from the long narrative of the kings of Israel in the journey through the full Biblical text. So for this read every chapter reading plan we make a stop in Psalms book one after Kings and before jumping into Isaiah.

Here are some of my favorites from the first 41.

Psalm 1 & 2
A description of a king that is from God, which connects to the story going back to Torah. Look for the connections to Deuteronomy 17 & 1 Samuel 8.

Psalm 8
How majestic is your name in all the earth! If you are of a certain age you probably instantly think of a modern song. The words connect us back to Genesis creation story and that God is good and his creation is good.

Psalm 10
A prayer to God to be near and hear. A remembrance that God does hear the afflicted and he does strengthen  their hearts and will bring justice to the oppressed.

Psalm 15
The character of a Godly person on display. Connects to Psalm 24 as we ascend the hill of the Lord.

Psalm 19
Creation declares the glory of God. The testimony of the Lord is sure. If you've been in church for singing you've surely heard several phrases from this Psalm that talks of creation and the unfailing ways of God.

Psalm 23
Does this have the most famous lines in all the Bible? But really it is a great Psalm to reflect on as David a shepherd uses imagery to show how he ultimately feels safe and secure in the presence of God.

Psalm 25
A prayer I am considering to memorize.

Psalm 32
Forgiveness of Sin. Blessed are the forgiven.

Psalm 34 & 37
You don't just know this as an English reader of the Bible, but these are acrostic poems in Hebrew. 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet. Maybe knowing that you read this differently.

Psalm 39
More words of prayer that perhaps we can relate to at different seasons.

Psalm 40
My Help and My Deliverer. I like the link to what Samuel said to Saul in 1 Samuel 15:22. "In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted." Perhaps these are words Samuel taught David.

I'll close with this prayer for us all

Make me to know your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths . Lead me in truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

Psalm 25:4-5
